More then one third is devoted to Garden related merchandise and plants that we have for sale during our open season. During the Fall, the center bay is used as the dividing, sorting, organizing and potting of our Fall peony divisions. We usually have over 100 different varieties to keep track of for our customers orders...and this is where it gets done.
We have some different hanging baskets and pots for sale as well as an unusual array of iron trellises, benches and arches. One line of garden accessories are produced by a Mexican cooperative, with different families responsible for their own individual items.
Each year we are slowly adding more annuals, and perennials for sale to help round out the peony season. A flower bed adjacent to the barn was started last Fall featuring the plants we sell as we think its important to trial the perennials so people can see what can be done with plants purchased here.
As many of you know, there are no blue colored peonies. The possibilities of hybridizing for the color blue is also fairly slim as there are no wild or native peonies in the world which have any blue in them. There is however, a possibility of getting that color via gene splicing...but have yet to hear of anyone taking on such an expensive undertaking. With that said.....
We are also growing Siberian and Japanese Iris's (think lots of blues) that seem to go nicely with the season of peonies. We are slowly becoming more familiar with their habit and needs and are offering named cv's as they become established here in our field. Unfortunately, we have found that the Japanese Iris bloom toward the latter half of July and most people
end up missing them.
